The Canberra Two Day Walk Association organises the annual Canberra Walking Festival.
AussieWalk IVV is a newly formed national organisation that manages the self-guided permanent IVV trails and special awards, and co-hosts the annual walks for World Walking Day in May and St Nicholas Christmas/Embassy walk in December.
This website is in the process of being updated to make it easier for walkers to find information about the annual Canberra Walking Festival and other IVV walking opportunities across Australia. A new site is expected to be launched later in 2016.
The Canberra Walking Festival is a non-competitive event open to everyone. A walk for all ages.
The walking festival is usually held late March/early April each year.
Detailed information about the 2017 event is available here.
A number of additional pre- and post-Festical walks are also being offered to showcase the best of Canberra. Why not extend your stay to include these walks.
Walkers choose their own walking challenge, from 5 km to a full marathon (44 km in 2017).
A note about the 5-6km walks: The Friday Welcome Walk is open to all, but on the weekend, the short walks are designed for the over 75s and under 8s, plus their walking companions.
The Canberra Walking Festival is a not-for profit event, run entirely by volunteers and a proportion of all entry fees is donated to various community organisations.
In addition to our group walking activities (see calendar), there are a number of self guided year round walks are also available in picturesque locations around Australia (Canberra, Sydney, Manly, Albury/Wodonga, Melbourne, Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, Adelaide, Uluru and Perth). Route information and maps are available here.
